Moments That Led Us Here
A few meaningful moments that shaped our story, shared simply so you can follow along with us.
The First Look
Ella first saw Benson at BYU’s “tall club” in March 2024 and thought he was cute… and very tall.
A week later, they matched on Hinge. Their first date was at a bookstore, which felt like a good sign. Benson bought Ella her favorite book, and they spent the night reading, talking about Pride and Prejudice, and getting to know each other.
The next night, Ella invited Benson to a bonfire after her original date bailed—very lucky. They ended up staying up all night talking about their missions, their lives, and everything in between.
Many, Many More Dates
Their second date was a junior high production of Romeo and Juliet. At the theater, they both realized it might not have been the best plan to attend a junior high play, but it turned out to be surprisingly good, and they laughed the entire way home. That night, they held hands for the first time.
After that, there were many, many more dates—pottery classes and painting nights, picnics up South Fork Canyon, road trips to Wyoming, a brutal hike up Delta Lake, holding baby alligators in New Orleans, surfing in Hawaii, and long talks in the car that never felt long enough.
Somewhere along the way, Benson said “I love you” first—accidentally—and then again, on purpose.
Under the Stars
Benson planned a stargazing trip to Yuba State Park for a double date. Ella thought she was helping set up her roommate. She was wrong.
Under the stars, he proposed, and she said YES!!
Benson fell in love with the way Ella sees the world: warm, bright, and full of joy. He also thinks she has the best laugh and smile in the world. One of Ella's favorite things about Benson is his thoughtfulness; he notices the little things and always makes her feel loved, including opening her car door every single time!
After two and a half years, they’re finally free from the question: “So… when are you getting married?”
